This week, we forget about golf, and think about our tummies.

EFCO Publishing has finally got my mother, Belle Serbin Fields’ cookbook published and available on The title of the book is THE MELTING POT COOKBOOK! The name refers to the good old days of the American Melting Pot. You see, Mother was born in 1912, and is now 101 years old. She’s a 1930′s girl, coping with the 21st Century.

But her recipes are still good. For example, one of Mother’s axioms is that, “Every bite of cake deserves icing.” (You know the old expression, “It’s the icing on the cake.”) For this reason, all Mother’s cakes areĀ  one layer, not, as she calls layer cakes, “high and dry”. And boy, what icings! Some of them are so rich that as you bite into them, you can feel your teeth rot! You can tell that I’m Mamma’s Boy. But don’t get me wrong, there are cakes good enough to go without icing, too

And it isn’t only desserts. It’s her 7-layered Jello mold which serves as a centerpiece on the table ’til it’s time to eat it.(At our house, Jello was a salad. It wasn’t rich enough to be a dessert.) And her triple salad dish for an appetizer.

Mother always thought that entertaining was a competitive sport, and these are some of the recipes she used to wow her guests. Your bride will be proud as punch when her guests ask for the recipes.

The book is available on, and we hope to overcome some problems and get it on Kindle soon. In the mean time, buy the cookbook for good eatin”.
